The Roots of AST:

AST Suspension was founded by Piet Kreeft and Peter Smits, their roots in suspension development and industrial manufacturing pushed AST to the forefront even in the early stages of the company.

Piet Kreeft started his career at KONI Suspension’s motorsport department.  For nearly 15 years, Piet supported professional auto and motorcycle racing for KONI at some of the most prestigious circuits around the world.

Piet later left KONI to start Aragosta Suspension, becoming a leader in motocross and GP racing. Building upon this success, Aragosta expanded their product range to include most vehicles and participated at World Rally championships, Kartcross and Touring car events, setting records in the Paris-Dakar Rally in both the T1 and T2 categories.

Eight years later, Piet formed HI TECH where he worked with INDY cars for nearly a decade. Piet was very active in INDY CAR chassis and suspension and worked alongside drivers including the world renown Emerson Fittipaldi.

After leaving HI TECH, Piet formed AST with Peter Smits of Smits Factory in 2000. Together, the duo combined their years of technical expertise to innovate and manufacture new suspension systems. AST made its name through unparalleled quality control and manufacturing flexibility, setting it apart from many others in the suspension industry.

2000 – 2010
In the early 2000’s AST set the stage for its future success. In 2002, Marleen Theuws joined the company as its operations manager, supporting its development into a global brand offering both street and sport dampers.  AST also succeeded in European motorsport, having brought on Julian van Dijken in 2007 as an additional in house engineer in charge of product support and development. In 2010, AST was chosen as the new shock supplier for the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.

2011: The Moton Connection

AST purchases MOTON Suspension Technology in 2011. MOTON Suspension is a renowned damper brand founded in 1999 that develops, manufactures and markets a full range of high quality, state-of-the-art adjustable dampers. By 2000, 30% of the starting field in the 24 hours of Le Mans were equipped with MOTON dampers.

MOTON has become a provider of high performance shock absorbers used by many prominent manufacturers and racing teams worldwide.  Its applications are mainly used in GT and Touring cars as well as in high-performance street cars while providing user-friendly and efficient technology.

Many professional races have been won on MOTON dampers such as the FIA GT and FIA Sportscar Championship, FIA ETCC and FIA WTCC Championship, Grand-Am and World Challenge Championship, and as well as numerous National GT, Touring and Club Racing events all over the world.

2012 – 2015:
In 2012, Piet Kreeft leaves AST Suspension, creating a unique opportunity to redefine the brand. Under the dynamic and passionate leadership of Marleen Theuws, AST continues to innovative state of the art suspensions alongside chief engineer Julian van Dijken, which push strongly into the European market.

In 2016, AST Suspension and Smits Factory are acquired by the Roosen Industries, the definitive supplier for technical high-quality metal semi-finished and finished products for over 40 years. Roosen Industries gives AST and MOTON suspension the opportunity to expand their business and further develop its advanced manufacturing capacities.

In 2017, Coen de Korte joined the AST/MOTON team with over 10 years of experience in the suspension industry, having worked at Merwede Springs since 2008.

Marleen and Coen’s experience in the suspension market continues to push AST and MOTON to new heights and their leadership has built new customer and motorsport relationships across the globe.

Both AST and Moton have become providers of high performance shock absorbers used by many prominent manufacturers and racing teams worldwide.  MOTON’s applications are mainly used in GT and Touring cars as well as in high-performance street cars while providing user-friendly and efficient technology.

2016 – Present: A New Era

MOTON SUSPENSION USA / AST SUSPENSION NA is formed and headquartered in Irvine, California, at the heart of the US automotive industry. The US team specializes in serving the North American market via sales, service and product support, working directly with the AST and Moton headquarters in Holland.

With respect to service centres, we have chosen two USA providers with comprehensive knowledge of AST and Moton products. These service centres have factory-trained suspension technicians on hand and maintain factory AST and Moton parts in stock. For west coast coverage, we have Performance Shock Inc. (Psi) located in Sonoma,CA and for the east coast we have RE Suspension in Morresville, NC. These two locations ensure strong product support for our professional and club racing clientele and minimize turnaround time for damper service and repair.

Both centres have been chosen to make sure our technical products are maintained in the most authentic way possible. Each service centre has their own direct line to Holland, which ensures each damper is serviced with factory genuine internals and processes, and cuts down communication time for service.

We look forward to working with you throughout the end of 2017 and into 2018 and stay tuned for more updates coming from our team.
